Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is not happy about Percy Tau, who withdrew from his squad for two upcoming international friendly matches against eSwatini and Ivory Coast.
Bafana clash with Sihlangu Semnikati at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Friday evening and then face the Elephants away in Abidjan four days lat
The former Brighton and Hove Albion forward has since been replaced by Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane.
Tau scored a brace when the Red Devils defeated Ismaily 3-1 in an Egyptian Premier League match at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria. As a result of scoring the brace, Tau won the man-of-the-match award.
“There’s the case of Percy Tau. I contacted Percy last week for family reasons, he liked not to be here with us. I understood it. On the other side, I’m really not amused that he played yesterday with Al Ahly,” Broos remarked.
The Belgian septuagenarian added that clubs should have the same understanding as them in as far as important periods are concerned.
“I think clubs have to understand that in very important periods they want to have the players, but it’s the same case for me, for us as the national team. We are in a very important period for the moment. We are in preparation for the qualifiers next month and we are in preparation for AFCON in January,” Broos said.
“I hope and then I hoped for little more collaboration from that side should be welcome. That means that we don’t really achieve our goals. The goal was that we should have nearly the same selection that won against Morocco and going building up that selection to have a very good team for the qualifiers and for January AFCON.”
