Banyana Banyana coach Desire Ellis is satisfied with the away goal her charges scored after they held the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to a 1-1 draw in a CAF Women’s Olympic qualifier at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa, DRC, on Wednesday.

Thembi Kgatlana cancelled the Congolese’s half-time lead to make sure that Banyana secured an important away goal. Grace Mfwamba’s goal five minutes before the break had given the Congolese an advantage.

“Look, we got an away goal. But I thought it could have been more than one. We had a couple of chances really to put the game to bed. It’s all to play for in the second leg,” Ellis said.

“We had one training session, really proud of the players, the way they performed, completely new backline as well, a very young backline. It augurs well for the future.”

Banyana will be looking for victory when they host the Congolese in the second leg at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Monday next week.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done. We have some players coming back to the squad,” the former Banyana captain remarked.
