It was sweet revenge for Mapule Ngubane as she defeated Rita Mrwebi from Mthatha at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban early on Sunday morning.

Ngubane, who lost to Mrwebi in 2012, successfully defended her South African female middleweight title with a points win.

This was the second time that Pietermaritzburg-born Ngubane successfully defended her SA title. She defeated Rushda Mallick in the first defence four months ago.

Meanwhile, SA middleweight champion John Bopape suffered his second successive stoppage loss when he was stopped in the sixth round by Patrick Mukala from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This loss followed just over three months after Bopape was stopped in the fourth round by unbeaten Russian boxer Vadim Tukov in Russia.
