Angola fought back to hold favourites Algeria to a 1-1 in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament Group D match at Stade de la Paix de Bouake in Ivory Coast on Monday evening.

The Desert Warriors scored first through their trusted forward Baghdad Bounedjah, the man who netted the 2019 AFCON title-winning goal, in the 19th minute.

The Black Antelopes equalised in the 68th minute after Cristovao Paciencia netted from a rebound following his penalty, which had hit the woodwork. Match referee Issa Sy from Senegal awarded the Angolans the penalty after Nabil Bentaleb had fouled Paciencia inside the box.
