With the Nigerian Super Eagles having had an upper hand over Bafana Bafana in a number of matches, South African senior national team captain Ronwen Williams is not overly concerned about meeting the West Africans.
Bafana clash against the Super Eagles in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final encounter at Stade de la Paix in Bouake, Ivory Coast, at 19h00 on Wednesday.
“Stats don’t play the game. You know many statistics that were against us in this tournament and we proved that stats don’t play the game. So, what has happened in the past, we can’t change that, but what we can change is tomorrow’s result. So we don’t look at that because that can’t change now. We control what we can control,” Williams said on Tuesday.
The Gqeberha-born Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper has done very well in this tournament, keeping four clean sheets as he matched the record set by his compatriot Andre Arendse in 1996.
Meanwhile, Bafana coach Hugo Broos revealed on Tuesday that Thapelo Maseko’s tournament is over following a hamstring injury he picked up during the match against Cape Verde last weekend.
