Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the top of the CAF Champions League Group A standings after they beat TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 1-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville west of Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
Namibian international striker Peter Shalulile beat Mazembe goalkeeper Aliou Faty from the penalty spot in the 38th minute. Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed awarded the Brazilians the penalty after Mazembe captain Kevin Mundeko Zatu had fouled Brazilian LucasRibeiro Costa inside the box.
This was the first goal the Congolese conceded in five Champions League matches. The Congolese had a number of opportunities, but they couldn’t locate the goalposts.
