Just a few days after he missed out on winning a gold medal at the Mandela African Boxing Cup tournament in Durban, amateur star Amzolele ‘Globe’ Dyeyi has left Mdantsane to continue with his career in Gauteng.

Dyeyi, who was trained by Zolile ‘Gqo’ Mahambi in Mdantsane, left East London for Gauteng on Wednesday. He’s turning professional and has since joined forces with 2023 Trainer of the Year award winner Khangelani Jack.

“I decided to release Globe after he told me that he was going to Johannesburg. I told him that I was not gonna keep him here. I even said that I will welcome him back should he decide to come back,” Mahambi said.

Dyeyi failed to bring home a gold medal from the recently-concluded Mandela African Boxing Cup tournament, which was held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban. He lost to Mozambican Sigauque Armando Rugeberto in the featherweight final.

Confirming his move to Gauteng, the 22-year-old Dyeyi said: “It’s true that I have left Mdantsane and will be trained by Bro Jack.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
