A date has been set for the funeral of the late former South African and world champion Dingaan ‘The Rose of Soweto’ Thobela.
The erstwhile SA junior-lightweight champion is going to be laid to rest on Thursday next week and the venue for his funeral service is yet to be confirmed.
Thobela’s lifeless body was found at his flat in Langlaagte, Johannesburg, on Monday. Thobela, who was born in Chiawelo, Soweto, was 57 years old.
Apart from being a former SA titlist, Thobela also won the World Boxing Council (WBC) super-middleweight, World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) lightweight titles.
