Royal AM will have to wait a little longer before they could know whether they have been promoted from the GladAfrica Championship to the Premier Division or not.
Royal AM finished the 2020/21 season on top of the GladAfrica Championship standings with 51 points from 30 games – a point ahead of second-placed Sekhukhune United.
Royal AM drew 1-1 with Cape Town All Stars in Chatsworth while Sekhukhune United beat JDR Stars 3-1 in Soshanguve on Sunday afternoon.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) released a statement on Sunday saying that the organisation had been threatened with court action should it award the GladAfrica Championship trophy.
“The Premier Soccer League has been threatened and served with court papers in relation to an arbitration award handed down impacting the GladAfrica Championship table. The matter must clearly be ventilated one way or the other and resolved. The League responsibility is to properly consider the matter and take advice so as to ensure that all disputes and differences are finalised urgently and without delay. While the matter remains in dispute, it is advisable to delay the GladAfrica Championship trophy handover for a short period to permit the League to consider the matter,” the statement read.
The problem started after an arbitrator awarded Sekhukhune United three points in relation to a matter involving Polokwane City, who were docked three points for fielding fewer Under-23 players than the stipulated number.
