If Abdul-Aziz Kunert thinks he will dethrone reigning South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi on Saturday then that’s just wishful thinking.
This is the view of Baba Makala, who is going to usher Batyi into battle when the Nxarhuni-born boxer clashes against Kunert in a rematch at the Orient Theatre in East London.
“He can say whatever he wants to say. He knows that he lost the first fight. It was called a draw just to appease his Cape Town fans,” Makala remarked.
“All the boxers who faced Zolisa had a lot to say before their fights. They got beaten on fight day. Kunert will be lucky if Zolisa doesn’t stop him. He’s going to receive proper punishment should the fight go the distance.”
Batyi will be making his fourth defence of the SA title he won after he stopped Jeff Magagane in the second round in Polokwane in December 2022. He drew with Kunert in Bellville, Cape Town, in August last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
