The centre court at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park roared with jubilation after ring announcer Duncan Pollock had announced that Siyakholwa Kuse had prevailed over Beaven Sibanda on Friday evening.

As a result of the win, Kuse became the new World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver mini-flyweight champion following a majority decision victory.

Francis Chirwa from Zambia scored the fight 117-111 while Zimbabwean Gloria Dera had it as a 114-114 draw with South African judge Ben Ncapai giving Kuse the fight with a 115-114 score card.

Kuse started slowly in the first two rounds and only began doing his thing from the third round until Sibanda came back strongly in the last two rounds chasing a tired-looking Kuse all over the ring. But the lad from Mdantsane held on until the last bell rang.

Meanwhile, Charlton Malajika won the vacant WBA Pan-African bantamweight title after he outpointed Sabelo Cebekhulu in a 10 rounds bout. After decking Cebekhulu in the fifth round and dominating him, Malajika was declared the winner by a unanimous decision.

On the other hand, Keanu Koopman stopped Onke Duku in the eighth round and won the vacant South African welterweight title in the process. Koopman first dropped Duku in the fifth round.
