One of the Eastern Cape’s fitness fanatics and boxing trainer Zolile ‘Gqo’ Mahambi has revealed how he fought hard to get what was due to him following Siseko Teyisi’s win over Mfavele Ntuli more than a week ago.
Mahambi, who has a two-year contract with Teyisi, got hot under the collar after he was paid less following Teyisi’s seventh round stoppage of Ntuli during a vacant South African junior-flyweight title fight at the Orient Theatre in East London.
Problems started after Teyisi’s manager Bongani Bozo paid Mahambi R1 000 and then gave Mnyamezeli Shosha, who manned the boxer’s corner during the win, R2 000. Mahambi’s cut from Teyisi’s purse was 10 percent as per their contract.
“I fought and got my money on Monday. There’s no way that I was going to allow anyone to short change me. I was even prepared to go further with the matter. I’ve got a contract with Siseko and it’s valid, too,” Mahambi said.
The wily trainer from Mdantsane added: “I want to have a meeting with Bongani so that we can map the way forward. I must also make it clear that I’m not fighting against him.”
As a result of the win over Ntuli, Teyisi maintained his unblemished record as the lad from Mdantsane has now won all his six fights with stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
