Mdantsane-born boxer Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete escaped with minor injuries during a car crash at the Qumza Highway on Sunday night.
The former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight champion was with three other occupants in his car when the accident occurred.
Tete’s sponsored Mercedes Benz, which he received earlier this year, is a write off following the accident.
“He is okay now. The car is a wreck,” Mlandeli Tengimfene, who handles Tete’s business affairs, said on Monday.
The 33-year-old Tete has not fought since he was dethroned by Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero in November 2019.
Meanwhile, world title hopeful Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga has wished Tete a speedy recovery.
“Whenever the devil sets a table for himself God ends up sitting at the head of that table, even in this hour we thank God for sparing the life of my brother Zolani Tete. Speedy recovery my champ. I’m shattered by the news but I take comfort in knowing that you’re okay and your life will continue,” Nontshinga wrote on Facebook.
