Determination and a desire to win a world title are the driving forces behind Ludumo ‘9MM’ Lamati’s resolve to do well in his next fight.
Lamati gets an opportunity to fulfil his dream of becoming a world champion when he clashes with Mexican Jose Martin Estrada Garcia in an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight title contest at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday, 19 June.
“I prepared for this fight with my head coach Phumzile Matyhila. We have been training since March. We didn’t take a break after my last fight in March,” Lamati revealed.
Lamati’s preparations for the fight included watching videos of some of Garcia’s fights and he said that he’s got an idea of the kind of a boxer the Mexican is.
“I know what I’m going to deal with on Saturday,” the 29-year-old Lamati said.
“There are no easy fights. One needs to adjust and fight. Mexicans are come forward fighters as you know. My advantage is that I have boxing skills. My boxing IQ is also better than his.”
Athenkosi Dumezweni, Lusanda Komanisi and Lerato Dlamini helped Lamati with sparring sessions.
Meanwhile, Garcia has been in South Africa for more than a week now.
