South African football was left with a black eye after Royal AM rebelled and failed to pitch for their PSL promotion/relegation play-off match against Chippa United at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Tuesday afternoon.
Chilli Boys players took the field with match referee Thando Ndzandzeka and his assistants on hand to start the proceedings.
However, it was never to be as there were no proceedings other than Ndzandzeka blowing his whistle.
An hour or so before kick-off, a Royal AM bus with players and officials arrived at the stadium only to leave the venue shortly.
Royal AM bosses are still angry after their court bid to interdict the play-offs failed. They are still fighting against Sekhukhune United’s automatic promotion from the GladAfrica Championship to the Premier Division.
Arbitrator Hilton Epstein awarded Sekhukhune United three points after Polokwane City had failed to have five Under-23 South African players in their match day squad earlier this year. The three points helped Sekhukhune United leap frog Royal AM on the GladAfrica Championship table.
