Having beaten Dean Promnick and in the process won the vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) middleweight title at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, DonJuan van Heerden now wants more success inside the ring.

It was a nice return to the Kempton Park venue for Van Heerden as his last visit was a loss to Snamiso Ntuli in August last year. However, the 2023 Male Prospect of the Year award winner, had other ideas on Saturday as he claimed the ABU belt.

Van Heerden took his professional record to 10 wins with seven knockouts and three losses after Promnick didn’t come out of his corner at the beginning of the 10th round.

“My last fight at Emperors Palace against Dean was awesome, what a war, I’m super excited for the future. I can’t wait until the next one. Hopefully, it comes quick within the next two-and-a-half, three months,” Van Heerden said.

“I will take a week’s break from the gym and be back to prepare for my next fight. It will be a better performance than I put on on Saturday night.”

Van Heerden added: “I’m very excited to work with Uncle Rodney Berman and Golden Gloves. They are phenomenal people, they are phenomenal guys. They are so professional. My career has been awesome so far. It’s onwards and upwards from here. I believe I will fight for the world title next year and will be crowned a champion.”

Van Heerden’s manager Colleen McAusland said: “DonJuan is still young, I’m already in talks for his next title fight. We would like two more fights this year. Ill be meeting with Rodney this week to discuss dates.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
