Stringent laws which apply before anyone can secure a visa to the United States of America (USA) are not stressing boxing trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan as some members of Team Cafu are still in South Africa and might not even make it to Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu’s fight next weekend.
Nathan and Cafu are currently in Las Vegas, USA, preparing for the reigning World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-bantamweight champion’s massive fight against World Boxing Council (WBC) and Ring Magazine titlist Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez at the Ford Centre in Star Frisco, Dallas, Texas, USA on Saturday, 19 July (Sunday, 20 July, South African time).
Top cutman Bernie Pailman, Larry Wainstein and Hayden Jones, who are members of Team Cafu, are stuck in South Africa as they are yet to secure interviews for American visas.
“Not sure if they will actually get their interviews. But you know me, I’ve always have a back up plan. I’m not stressed,” Nathan said from Las Vegas.
Nathan and the Duncan Village-born Cafu left South Africa for the US on Saturday last week. They have settled in Las Vegas where they continue to train at the DLX Boxing Gym and will proceed to Texas on Monday next week. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
Let’s wish them a happy stay in and hope preparations are going well. As for visa issues, we can only rely on Collins and his US connections to assist their entire Cafu team.
