After reaching the quarter-finals of the WBC Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Bekizizwe ‘Dr Sleep’ Maitse is now preparing to face off against Iman Lee from the United States of America (USA) next month.
Maitse advanced to the last eight of the competition after he defeated Tanzanian boxer Juma Ramadhan Juma Kikande, who is popularly known as Juma Choki, at the Global Theatre Boulevard Riyadh City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last month.
“Maitse is fighting against American boxer Iman Lee in the WBC Grand Prix on the 13th of August,” Maitse’s manager Brad Norman revealed.
With a record of eight victories with three knockouts and a loss, the African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC featherweight champion is preparing for the Lee fight under the guidance of former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight titlist Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete.
Maitse, who is the son of former South African junior-featherweight champion Bongani Mahlangu, is rated in sixth place in the SA featherweight division.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Lee, who has won all his 14 fights and stopped eight of his opponents, defeated Hector Munguia Calderon from Mexico and Argentine Juan Manuel Albornoz in the previous two rounds of the competition. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
