It looks like the South African junior-welterweight title fight between Aphiwe Boyiya and Sibusiso Zingange is jinxed as it is off now.

The cancellation of the fight has nothing to do with money as all the purses had already been deposited into the Boxing South Africa (BSA) account.

Ink Sport has reliably been informed that the fight collapsed after Zingange’s withdrawal following a disagreement on a new date for the whole tournament. A proposed date, which is Tuesday next week, came hours after both Boyiya and Zingange had made the weight during a weigh-in held on Friday afternoon.

The tournament was set to take place at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg, North West.

An Ink Sport source said: “There was a meeting between the two camps which was attended by BSA’s Tsholofelo Lejaka and Mandla Ntlanganiso. This is where the date change was discussed because of venue issues. Sadly, the fight is now off following Zingange’s withdrawal after the tournament was postponed to Tuesday next week.”

Apparently, Zingange and his handlers baulked at the idea of a new date following numerous postponements. Initially, the fight was scheduled for the 26th of July, but got postponed to September.

Our source added: “Aphiwe’s camp had no problem with the fight being postponed to next week. It’s really sad that this fight is not happening anymore after a long wait.”

Ink Sport contacted both camps with a view of getting comments. However, handlers of the two boxers opted against making comments.

TLB Boxing Promotions boss Joyce Kungwane said through a statement: “With a heavy heart, we would like to announce that our event that was scheduled to take place on the 20th September 2025 in Sun City will no longer take place.

“TLB Boxing Promotions did everything required, but sadly, our partners pulled out at the final stage, leaving us unable to continue. In sport and life such setbacks happen even when we try our best.

“We are truly sorry to our boxers, supporters and everyone who has been looking forward to this event. Your belief keeps us going and we promise to rise again and keep creating opportunities for the boxing fraternity.”
