Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe strongly believes that his boxer Thinumzi Gqola from Duncan Village in East London will have no problem in beating Mthokozisi Ngxaka yet again.
Hlombe said this following an independent review ordered by Boxing South Africa (BSA), which found out that Ngxaka won his fight against Gqola. This is so even though Gqola was declared a winner by a split decision when the two boxers clashed in Johannesburg in August.
Ngxaka surrendered his South African mini-flyweight title to Gqola after two judges – Jaap van Niewenhuizen and Mmoledi Malokane – gave the fight to his opponent while Thabo Spampool had the former champion winning the bout.
Unhappy with the result, Ngxaka’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene applied for the review of the fight. And BSA announced on Tuesday that, after a review process conducted three judges from different provinces, the fight was judged in favour of Ngxaka.
“We had hoped that the review would uphold the initial results of the fight. Anyway, we have accepted the review of the fight,” Hlombe said.
With BSA having ordered a rematch between Mthatha-born Ngxaka and Gqola, Hlombe said: “We have no problem with having a rematch against Ngxaka. We are not afraid of him because we know that we will beat him again.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
