Struggling Gqeberha-based side Chippa United, who are stone last on the Betway Premiership standings, confirmed a number of changes in their technical set-up.
The club’s technical director Morgan Mammila as well as assistant coach Selaetso Mosala have left the Eastern Cape side.
Vusumuzi Vilakazi, who rejoined the team following Luc Eymael’s departure earlier this week, is going to be assisted by Nkosi Dikeni while Sean Louw is the goalkeeper coach.
“Chippa United Football Club recognises the challenging juncture at which we presently stand, positioned at the lower end of the Betway Premiership table. Though recent outcomes have tested our fortitude, we appeal to our loyal supporters, esteemed stakeholders and the proud people of the Eastern Cape to remain resolute in faith and unshaken in conviction as we pursue our long-term vision,” the club’s statement said on Friday.
“We have traversed similar terrain before — and each time, through unity, perseverance and collective resolve, we have reclaimed our strength. Every decision undertaken by the club in the past 10 days has been calculated, judicious and purposeful, emblematic of a broader strategy aimed at the enduring renaissance of Chippa United FC. We are amid a transformative epoch — one of introspection and re-invention — devoted to consolidating our foundations, refining our football identity and restoring the club’s rightful stature among the upper echelons of South African football.”
The statement added: “It is within this context that we appointed coach Kanu Vilakazi, a figure deeply attuned to the club’s ethos and aspirations, to re-orient and rejuvenate our sporting trajectory. His stewardship symbolises a renewed commitment to discipline, cohesion and competitive resurgence. With merely 10 of 30 fixtures contested so far, the campaign remains in its infancy and we retain absolute faith that through collective endeavour, our fortunes will be restored.
“As part of our internal restructuring, the club confirms the re-affirmation of the following members within the technical set-up for the remainder of the season, Nkosi Dikeni, assistant coach, Sean Louw, goalkeeper coach, Morten Ridgard, sports scientist, and Bonginkosi Thabethe, physiotherapist.
“These individuals, form part of coach Vilakazi’s technical team and embody the professionalism and continuity required for the club’s resurgence. The technical department will be directed and overseen by our SD Sinesipho Mali, whose expertise in performance analysis will guide and strengthen the team throughout the campaign.”
The statement concluded: “In alignment with our developmental vision, the club is pleased to welcome Luthando Lubisa as development administrator for Nelson Mandela Bay, with Vukile Mlanjana assuming the role of head of development, overseeing all Buffalo City Municipality programmes. These appointments re-affirm our dedication to cultivating grassroots excellence and nurturing the next generation of Eastern Cape footballing talent.
“We also take this moment to bid farewell to coach Morgan Mammila and coach Selaotse J Mosala, who part ways with the club. We express our sincere gratitude for their contribution and wish them well in their future endeavours.”
