Kaizer Chiefs ruled over Congolese side AS Simba, defeating them 3-1 as they reached the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after a second round preliminary second leg match at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi’s intentions became clear as early as the third minute when Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro netted their first goal after an assist from Glody Lilepo.

Zitha Kwinika increased Amakhosi’s lead in the 15th minute following Mfundo Vilakazi’s setpiece. Lilepo made it 3-0 in the 28th from yet another Vilakazi setpiece.

An own goal by Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy 10 minutes before full-time gave the Congolese some hope, but it was just that as Amakhosi won the match.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC also advanced to the group stages following a 4-1 win over Angolan side Agosto de Akonibe at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.
