Siyakholwa Kuse knows that there’s no turning back for him as he’s counting hours before he exchanges blows with World Boxing Council (WBC) strawweight champion and Filipino boxer Melvin Jerusalem on Wednesday.
Kuse announced his readiness for the fight of his life after he together with Jerusalem tipped the scales at 104.8 pounds (47,53 kilograms) at the official weigh-in ahead of the clash, which forms part of the Thrilla in Manila tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines.
“I’m feeling ready, I’m strong for the fight. I’m gonna become the WBC champion on Wednesday,” Kuse said from the Philippines.
Mdantsane-born Kuse, a former South African and African Boxing Union (ABU) minimumweight titlist, will be out to become the first boxer from the Eastern Cape to rule in the WBC.
He will also be vying to become the first WBC strawweight champion from the African continent as only Asian, Central and South American boxers have ever ruled in that division. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
