Madantsane boxer Siyakholwa Kuse’s bid to make history by becoming the first boxer from the Eastern Cape to win a World Boxing Council (WBC) title came to nothing as he lost to Filipino boxer and strawweight champion Melvin Jerusalem on Wednesday evening, South African time.

After a gruelling 12 rounds where Kuse gave his all, Jerusalem emerged victorious with a unanimous points decision to successfully defend his crown for the third time at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines.

Samantha Bulner from Australia had Jerusalem winning by 115-113 while the scorecards of Jun Bae Lim from Korea Republic and Mongolian Zanashir Taznaa read 116-112.

The fight was close until the last three rounds where Jerusalem gained his momentum as his blows found the intended target on his way to winning in front of his home fans.
