Bongani Fule probably had one of his toughest fights as he was taken to deep waters before he defeated Jeff Magagane via a split decision at the Guild Theatre in East London on Sunday.
Favoured to cruise to victory before getting into the ring, Fule had to dig deeper into his reserves as a game Magagane gave him some torrid moments during the bout.
Magagane, a former South African featherweight champion, came to East London to fight and fight he did as he used his left hook effectively. There were moments when it looked like Magagane might cause an upset and stop Fule as he used his reach to his advantage.
Meanwhile, knockout specialist Lonwabo Sizani laboured to a fourth round stoppage win over Aphiwe Magobiyane in the main supporting bout.
Many fight fans expected Sizani from Mdantsane to have it easy against Magobiyane, but it was never to be as the Gqeberha-born boxer gave as much as he got in so much that a stoppage in his favour looked likely.
After absorbing pressure from his opponent, Sizani upped his game and landed some nice blows something which led to him registering yet another stoppage.
