The South African Under-17 national team, Amajimbos, opened their FIFA Under-17 World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Bolivia in Doha, Qatar, on Monday afternoon, SA time.

Amajimbos fought very hard after they were reduced to 10 players following Sive Pama’s red card in the 36th minute. That red card didn’t dampen their spirits as they attacked relentlessly.

Their efforts were rewarded as they took the lead through Emile Witbooi in the 38th minute and 12 minutes later, Neo Bohloko increased Amajimbos’ lead from an Alwande Booysen assist.

The Bolivians cut the deficit into half when Jesús Maximiliano Maraude Cano netted from a spot kick in the 72nd minute.

However, Amajimbos were not done yet as Shaun Els made it 3-1 from another Booysen assist in the 90th minute. Coach Vela Khumalo’s boys are going to clash against tournament hosts Qatar at 17h45 on Thursday.
