Five players have been released from the South African Under-23 national team, which will play at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
A statement from the South African Football Association (SAFA) on Sunday said that the players were released due to various medical reasons.
The players are Lyle Foster, Fagrie Lakay, Abbubaker Mobara, Sipho Mbule and Keletso Makgalwa.
The statement added that national Under-23 coach David Notoane will soon name their replacements.
Notoane’s boys are in Group A and face hosts Japan at the Tokyo Stadium on Thursday, 22 July. They then clash against France at the Saitana Stadium three days later. They wrap up the group stages with a match against Mexico at the Sapporo Dome on 28 July.
