An injury Namibian flyweight champion Jonas Erastus picked up at training has forced a change of opponent for Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga, who’s making a comeback at the Box Camp Booysens in Johannesburg on Saturday, 15 November.

As a result of Erastus’ injury, organisers of the Boxing 5 Promotions tournament moved quickly and secured yet another opponent for Nontshinga, who is rated 10th by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

With Erastus having dislocated his shoulder while sparring in Namibia, Nontshinga will now face Sunday Kiwale from Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania.

“The Namibian boxer pulled his shoulder last week. And we had to move very fast as we need Nontshinga in the ring,” Nontshinga’s trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan said.

The 26-year-old Nontshinga’s return to action is to ensure that he doesn’t drop out of the IBF ratings having moved down five places from fifth to 10th position.

Nontshinga has not fought since he lost his IBF junior-flyweight title to Japanese boxer Yabuki Masamichi via a ninth round stoppage in Japan in October last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
