Nkoi Matshoba has allayed fears surrounding Thobela Nyanda’s future in the square ring after she dislocated her shoulder during her fight against Malawian boxer Harriet Mthende on Friday evening.
Nyanda suffered a second round stoppage loss to Mthende in an eight rounds international mini-flyweight bout in Soweto. Fight referee Pumeza Zinakile stopped the proceedings after seeing that Nyanda was struggling as she was using only one hand.
“She’s okay now and the pain has subsided. We have been told that she will be able to continue with her boxing career within three months,” Matshoba, who trains Nyanda, said.
This was the first time the Mdantsane-based reigning South African female mini-flyweight champion fought since her previous fight in June.
Meanwhile, it was a very bad outing for East London female boxers as all three – Nyanda, Azasakhe Jamani and Asandiswa Nxokwana – lost their fights.
Apart from Nyanda losing to Mthende, Jamani was stopped in the fourth round by Malawian Adidiya Mimu and Nxokwana lost on points to Kabisile Tshabalala. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
