Orlando Pirates remain on top of the Betway Premiership standings after their 2-1 win over Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Following a goalless first half, the Buccaneers shot to the lead eight minutes into the second stanza from Relebohile Mofokeng’s 53rd minute goal. The home  side equalised through Bonginkosi Dlamini in the 86th minute.

Just as Rise and Shine thought they had managed to earn a point from the match, Patrick Maswanganyi netted the Buccaneers’ winning goal in the dying minutes of the game.

Meanwhile, Betway Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

The Tshwane giants took the lead through Teboho Mokoena’s rocket following an assist from Aubrey Modiba in the 28th minute. Three minutes into the second half Iqraam Rayners increased the Brazilians’ lead for his 12th goal of the season. 

The Brazilians were reduced to 10 men in the 52nd minute after Jayden Adams’ studs up challenge on Ayabulela Maxwele’s ankle earned him a red card.  

And Abafana Bes’thende’s Ivorian forward Sede Junior Dion cut the deficit into half in the 78th minute for his 10th league goal this season.
