In an unprecedented ruling, the appeal board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruled on Tuesday evening that Senegal had been stripped as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The statement declared that Senegal had forfeited the match under the relevant tournament regulations due to their infringement, officially recording the result as a 3–0 victory for Morocco. Tuesday’s appeal board outcome overturned an earlier discipinary decision by CAF.

“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Appeal Board decided today that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal national team is declared to have forfeited the final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF),” a CAF statement said on Tuesday evening.

The statement added: “The appeal lodged by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) is declared admissible in form and the appeal is upheld. The CAF disciplinary board decision is set aside. All other motions or prayers for relief are dismissed.”

Poblems started after the Teranga Lions players walked off the field something which resulted in the match being delayed. They only returned to the field after the intervention of their captain Sadio Mane.
