With just over a month before one of Siyakholwa Kuse’s most important fights, his trainer Manny Fernandes is quite satisfied with how their preparations for the duel against Filipino boxer Melvin Jerusalem are going.

Mdantsane-born Kuse is sweating buckets at the gym preparing to face World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight champion Jerusalem in a rematch pencilled for the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 16 May.

“Everything is going very well in as far as our preparations are concerned. We are expecting a very big performance from Kuse. The good thing is that I have had more time working with him now,” Fernandes said.

According to Fernandes, Kuse has been sparring with current International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight champion, WBC Africa flyweight titlist Ndabezinhle Phiri and IBO International bantamweight title holder Charlton Malajika.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old Jerusalem has spent more than a week camping in Nagoya, Japan, as he’s preparing for his fourth world title defence.

“Jerusalem can go prepare for the fight anywhere, we don’t mind. We have our own programme, which we are following,” Fernandes remarked. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
