Preparing for his sixth professional fight, which is going to take place in July, Mdantsane-born boxer Sanele ’16V’ Sogcwayi’s work rate has impressed his trainer Manny Fernandes.

Sogcwayi, a former amateur star, joined Fernandes at the Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy in Edenvale after he left the stable of former South African flyweight champion Ncedo Cecane early in January.

In his first fight under Fernandes, Sogcwayi, who is now rated eighth in the current Boxing South Africa (BSA) featherweight ratings, defeated a tough Namibian opponent Tomas Shifiona in March. Now he faces Zimbabwean opponent Prichard Dube at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 11 July.

“We got Sanele whom I am looking forward to his next fight ght at Emperors Palace. I’m quite excited for Sanele. He’s gonna improve from the last fight where he did well. He’s definitely gonna be the one to look out for. I think he’s gonna be one of the next champions. He’s got a huge potential,” Fernandes said.

After making his professional debut in March last year, Sogcwayi has won all his five fights with two of those wins coming from knockouts. This is going to be his fourth fight at the Emperors Palace with two of his other bouts having been fought at Cabo Beach, V and A Waterfront, in Cape Town. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
