Regie ‘The Filipino Phenom’ Suganob lived up to his pre-fight prediction as he stopped former world champion, Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga, in the fifth round at the Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium, Tagbilaran City, in the Philippines on Saturday.
After being decked in the third round, Suganob came back stronger as he put Nontshinga under pressure on his way to winning the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout. With Nontshinga’s guards down, Suganob did what any other credible boxer would do, land more blows snd finish him off.
This was sweet revenge for Suganob, who lost to Nontshinga in an IBF junior-flyweight title fight at the International Convention Centre (ICC), KuGompo City, in July 2023.
“I promise my fans a win. If there’s an opportunity, I will knock him out. I’m inspired because This is a very important fight for me because a win will earn me a world title shot,” Suganob said on Friday.
Following the win, Suganob is going to challenge the winner of the IBF junior-flyweight championship fight between defending champion, Thanongsak Simsri from Thailand, and Mark Vicelles. Simsri is scheduled to defend against the Filipino in Japan on Saturday, 26 September.
