As Bekizizwe ‘Doctor Sleep’s Maitse engages in his bout against Kago Raokgwathile this coming Friday, it’s going to be the second time that he gets into action since losing in the semi-finals of the WBC Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last year.

Maitse stopped Sanele Magwaza in the fifth round when they fought at the Fourways Farmers Market in Johannesburg three months ago. And he faces Raokgwathile at the same venue in an eight rounds bout this coming Friday.

Rated fifth by Boxing South Africa (BSA), Maitse had a good run at the WBC Grand Prix until he suffered a fifth round stoppage loss to unbeaten Mexican boxer Brandon Mosqueda last October. Now Maitse’s aim is to climb up the ratings and ultimately emulate his father, Bongani Mahlangu, a former SA junior-featherweight champion, by fighting for a national title.
