AmaZulu announced on Tuesday evening that they had appointed former Bafana Bafana analyst, Sinesipho Mali, as their head of football strategy.
Born in Qonce in the Eastern Cape, Mali joined Usuthu just a few weeks following his departure from Bafana after the South African senior men’s national team were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup finals currently underway in the United States of America (USA).
“My history with this great football club goes back many years. AmaZulu was the first club to ever give me a professional interview, when coach Steve Barker was in charge,” Mali said.
“I also had the opportunity to work with the youth team during the 2015 Engen Champ of Champs tournament as the opposition analyst. Although we narrowly missed out on the final, those experiences have always stayed with me. I can genuinely say this is a move that has long been written in the stars. There have been opportunities over the years, but I’m grateful that the timing is finally right.”
Mali, who has worked at Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United, added: “The club’s growth over the past six years has been evident. AmaZulu has consistently competed in the top half of the league, qualified for CAF Champions League football and most recently secured a top-four finish. Equally impressive has been the transformation in recruitment, with a clear emphasis on developing younger players, strengthening the academy and creating genuine pathways into the senior team. That commitment aligns perfectly with my passion for youth development, recruitment and building sustainable football structures.”
He concluded: “I firmly believe KwaZulu-Natal is the richest province in South Africa when it comes to football talent. You find every type of player profile here – pace, power, technical ability, defensive aggression and physical presence. That diversity of talent makes this an incredibly exciting environment to work in. My hope is to build on the outstanding work already done by the coaches and technical staff over the past few seasons. Through my experience at international level and across various levels of the game, I hope to contribute to the continued growth and long-term success of this amazing football club.”
