Mamelodi Sundowns have set up an MTN8 final against defending champions, Orlando Pirates, after they reached the last match of the competition courtesy of the away rule.
The Brazilians defeated Lamontville Golden Arrows 3-2 in the second leg match held at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban, on Sunday afternoon.
The aggregate score was 3-3 after Abafana Bes’thende had beaten the Tshwane giants 1-0 in the first leg encounter played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville west of Pretoria last weekend.
Returnee Cassius Mailula gave the African champions the lead in the 31st minute after he received a pass from Chilean midfielder, Marcelo Allende.
Abafana Bes’thende dangerman, Junior Sede Dion, equalised from a Ronaldo van Neel assist in the 67th minute.
Allende, who walked away with the Man-of-the-match award, turned the game around in the 77th minute as he netted the Brazilians’ second goal. And Antonio van Wyk made it 3-1 in the 86th minute following an assistant from Iqraam Rayners.
Philani Khumalo netted to make it 3-2 in referee’s added time after a pass from Sabelo Sithole. But his goal was not enough to send Arrows to the final.
