Khama Billiat is understandably feeling great and it is easy to figure out why the Kaizer Chiefs attacker is in such a good mood because Amakhosi have made it to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
Amakhosi reached the group stages of the Champions League after they beat Angolan side Primero de Agosto 1-0 at the 11th November Stadium in Luanda, Angola, courtesy of Leonardo Castro goal in a preliminary round second leg fixture on Tuesday evening.
The two sides had played to a goalless draw in the first leg match held at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, in December.
‘‘It’s a great feeling. We want to thank God for giving us this opportunity. I think credit goes to the technical team and the entire
team,’’ the former Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker said.
‘‘The whole effort the chairman is putting on everyone is very important to go test ourselves with the rest of the Champions League giants. It really gives us confidence going to our domestic competition. We really want to go all the way, we want to make a difference.
‘‘We want to push ourselves to the limit, to see how far we can go, how far we can compete in Africa. We give credit to the guys. We worked so hard and stuck to the plan. It’s not easy and it’s gonna be
very tough. We can learn and grow as a team.’’
Amakhosi travelled to Angola without senior players Lebogang Manyama, Itumeleng Khune and Willard Katsande. And Billiat says the trio’s absence showed that Amakhosi have depth in their squad.
‘‘It shows the quality that we have, everyone is important. We really need to step up when they are not around, we really need to do what they were gonna do. They motivated us, they are part of the group,’’
said Billiat.
‘‘I believe that everyone want to go all the way. We want to be the generation that will do what the best generation of this club did.
This club has history and we want to do what they have done.’’
