It’s been a long drought for Kaizer Chiefs, almost three months without a win in the DStv Premiership, and it’s no wonder that
Amakhosi coach Gavin Hunt appreciates getting the three points after leading his team to a 1-0 victory over AmaZulu at King’s Park in Durban on Wednesday afternoon.

Serbian Samir Nurković scored the goal, which brought joy to many Chiefs followers, who were on the verge of forgetting how a DStv Premiership win for Amakhosi feels like.

The win over Usuthu was Chiefs’ second this season having won once before when they beat Chippa United through Gregory Damons’ own goal on the 27th of October.

‘‘We worked on a shape before we came here to try and nullify their players. They have some good players, they have invested heavily. I thought in the first half they got behind us once or twice,’’ said Hunt.

‘‘Right now for us any win is a big win. We should have won more games. We have been poor defensively. If you get a guy like Samir playing for you each week like what it happened last year, he played those first 10 games and scored goals.’’

They say desperate times call for desperate measures and this was clear when Hunt played Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso in midfield.

‘‘People thought I was mad when I played Daniel Cardoso in midfield.

There was nothing I could do because we don’t have anyone. He played in midfield and was brilliant,’’ Hunt said.

On the other hand, Usuthu coach Benni McCarthy lamented his side’s poor performance.

‘‘I’m very disappointed. I think there was a tremendous opportunity for us to walk away with three points. You know when you play against giants whether they are in top form or not you have to be clinical, you have to put the ball in the net. Their chance was from a mistake from us,’’ McCarthy said.

‘‘We are gonna continue to work hard because there are so many positives. How we play to create chances is very positive. Good luck and well done to Kaizer Chiefs.’’

Amakhosi are going to face Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday while Usuthu will play against Maritzburg United in a KwaZulu-Natal derby at King’s Park on Sunday.
