Desiree Ellis is not satisfied with Banyana Banyana’s performance despite keeping a clean sheet and thrashing Mozambique 6-0 in an African Women’s Cup of Nations qualifier at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Tuesday afternoon.
Linda Motlhalo and Hildah Magaia scored a brace each with Bambanani Mbane and Sibulele Holweni scoring the other goals. Despite scoring half a dozen goals, their coach believes her team could have done better.
Banyana Banyana won 13-0 on aggregate after beating the Mozambicans 7-0 away last week.
“I think we played much better in Mozambique. Movement off the ball, especially in the first half, we were static. In that way we kept playing the high ball, which doesn’t work for us,” the Banyana Banyana coach said.
“We wanted the two centre backs to move into spaces and effect change because they had set very deep. We scored one goal from a set-piece, but when you look at the other goals we scored, it was well-worked goals where we moved the ball around.”
The Cape Town-born Banyana Banyana coach lamented the fact that they couldn’t add more goals even though they created numerous goal scoring chances.
“In the second half we created a lot of opportunities, we were not clinical in front of goals,” she said.
