It looks like it was an eternity ago when Chippa United chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi preached patience and asked Chilli Boys supporters to give Gavin Hunt a chance.
Things have changed now as Mpengesi is about to pull the trigger and chop Hunt after suspending him because of poor results.
The Chilli Boys are 14th on the Premiership standings with seven points from 10 matches having won once, drawn four times and lost five games.
Last month Mpengesi preached patience asking supporters to give Hunt a chance, only to find that he was busy practising another way of pulling the trigger.
“I will be the first to admit that this is not a pretty picture and those of you that are worried about this, are justified. But those of us who have been with the team since preseason and have seen what the coach and the technical team have been trying to drill into the boys, are not worried as those whose only interaction with the team has been through watching our games on television,” Mpengesi said last month.
The Ngqamakhwe-born Chilli Boys owner added at the time: “We have seen how the boys are responding to what the coaches want from them. This kind of commitment really warms our hearts and makes us very happy. We are confident that, very soon, our fortunes will change for the better. The coach has our full support. We want to see him and the players succeed. So I urge all of you to be patient. Patience is important as it is a prime mediator of success in any sport.”
Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys have appointed veteran midfielder Kurt Lentjies as caretaker coach and will be assisted by Siyabulela Gwambi.
