There’s nothing to worry as Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga is “perfectly” fine following a car crash in Malibongwe Drive, Johannesburg on Monday.
This was said by the former world champion’s manager-cum-trainer, Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, on Monday afternoon.
Nontshinga, who will be travelling to the Philippines next week to complete his preparations ahead of his clash against Regie ‘The Filipino Phenom’ Suganob, was a passenger in a car which was driven by his dad, Thembani ‘Best’ Gopheni.
“He is in good spirits. The accident didn’t affect anything. Our plans for our next fight are still on track and we will leave for the Philippines on the fourth of September,” Nathan said.
Nontshinga and Suganob are going to meet in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines, on Saturday, 12 September.
This is the second time that the two boxers meet as Nontshinga defeated Suganob via a unanimous points decision in an IBF junior-flyweight title defence at the International Convention (ICC), KuGompo City, in July 2023.
The 27-year-old Nontshinga won twice and lost two times since defeating Suganob. On the other hand, Suganob, 28, has recorded five wins since losing to Nontshinga. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
