An International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt could this weekend be added to the one South Africa already has as American-based South African boxer DeeJay Kriel challenges IBF junior-flyweight champion Felix Alvarado at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, Texas, in the United States of America on Saturday evening (Sundaymorning South African time).

Currently, South Africa only has one IBF champion in Moruti ‘Babyface’ Mthalane, who rules in the flyweight division.

Kriel is no stranger to fighting for an IBF belt as he had done so before stopping Carlos Licona in a minimumweight contest in February 2019.

This is going to be Alvarado’s second defence of the title he won when he stopped Randy Petalcorin in 2018.

Meanwhile, the Kriel-Alvarado contest is going to be on the undercard of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Interim lightweight title fight between Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell.
