Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has finally realised his dream of playing in the English Premier League after Brighton and Hove Albion recalled him from Belgian side Anderlecht cutting short his season long loan.

The Emalahleni-born Tau, who joined Brighton for a R50 million transfer fee from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018, couldn’t get a work permit to play in England because of stringent rules as Bafana were outside the top 50 ranked national teams in the world. However, the regulations changed following Brexit.

‘‘We’re pleased to be able to welcome Percy to the club and begin working with him. I know he’s a player whose progress many of our fans have followed in recent seasons. We too have closely monitored his performances in Belgium in the last three years,’’ Seagulls manager
Graham Potter was quoted on the club’s website on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Tau spent the last two and half seasons in Belgium playing for Royal Union Saint Gallioise, Club Brugge and Anderlecht.

Tau’s Seagulls are on position 17 on the English Premier League standings.
