Johannesburg-based Mdantsane boxer Ludumo Lamati has turned his back on Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) and switched to Golden Gloves.

This was announced by Golden Gloves on its website.

Lack of fights seem to be the reason behind Lamati’s decision to switch from RAP to Golden Gloves. The 28-year-old Lamati has not fought since he defeated Filipino boxer Richie Mepranum at the Orient Theatre, East London, in July 2019.

Already, Golden Gloves boss Rodney Berman has promised Lamati a shot in the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight title on 1 June.

“I’m not really looking for more fighters, but I looked at this kid and he is number five in the WBC, he is ranked in the WBA. He is unbeaten and nobody has ever thought of doing anything with him, so we signed him. I have secured an IBO world title for him, the title is vacant,” Berman said on the Golden Gloves website.

Lamati, who is trained by former South African bantamweight champion Phumzile Matyhila, has 16 wins with 10 stoppages and a draw.
