Loose-head prop Steven Kitshoff’s unavailability is a blow to Western Province as they play against the Sharks in the semi-finals of the Carling Currie Cup at Newlands, Cape Town, in Saturday (16h30).
Kitshoff will miss the Sharks game because of COVID-19 protocols and his place is going to be taken by Ali Vermaak.
“Obviously, Steven’s absence is a big blow. Kitsie has been outstanding in this campaign. I’m comforted by Ali. To have Ali coming for Steven is brilliant. Ali is the most underrated player,” WP coach John Dobson said.
WP and the Sharks were scheduled to play against each other two weeks ago, but their match was called off because of positive cases of COVID-19 at the Sharks.
Meanwhile, WP captain Soya Kolisi is back in the team after being out for some time.
“It’s been tough, I haven’t been with the team for three weeks. Everybody is hungry and we wanna do well. It’s great we are able to get a home play-off,” Kolisi said.
