Swallows FC coach Brandon Truter has blamed tiredness as the reason behind his team’s failure to beat Mamelodi Sundowns whom they held to a 1-1 draw in a DStv Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday.
Musa Nyatama scored for the Birds to cancel Sundowns’ goal, which was scored by Kermit Erasmus.
Truter said that the Brazilians had an advantage as they had an extra day compared to Swallows. Before meeting Swallows, Sundowns played against Bloemfontein Celtic on Tuesday and the Dube Birds faced Chippa United the following day.
“I think we were really tired. We can’t run away from that, it’s a fact. They had one extra day to rest,” Truter said.
Mitchell’s Plain-born Truter added that Swallows were the better team in the second half.
“We were not at the races, we would have gone 1-0 in the first half. Second half was much better than it was in the Chippa game. We fought until the end, well done to the boys,” Truter said.
“Our tactical structure is different from the other teams. Sundowns couldn’t cope with us. We opened up spaces in the second half.”
