East London boxing fans’ favourite Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile is going to face Martin Ward from the United Kingdom.
This was revealed by Fuzile’s manager Colin Nathan, who added that the clash between the former South African featherweight champion and Ward is going to be for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight mandatory spot.
The IBF junior-lightweight title is vacant after former champion Joseph Diaz from the United States lost it on the scales before his fight against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov from Tajikistan last weekend.
The fight between Diaz and Rakhimov ended in a majority draw. The IBF has since ordered Rakhimov and Japanese boxer Kenichi Ogawa to fight for the vacant title.
“I have concluded a deal for my boxer Azinga to fight against Martin Ward for the mandatory spot. I have spoken to Azinga and he gave me the go ahead to negotiate with Eddie Hearn,” Nathan said.
Fuzile, who left Nathan as his trainer and returned to Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye recently, is rated fifth by the IBF while Ward is fourth.
