Ryno Liebenberg’s experience pulled him through as he stopped Rowan Campbell in the eighth round at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Sunday evening.
As a result of the win, Liebenberg had the World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All Africa and South African super-middleweight belts strapped around his waist and shoulder.
Referee Tony Nyangiwe stopped the fight in one minute and 19 seconds in the eighth round after seeing that a bloodied 27-year-old Campbell, who is 10 years younger than Liebenberg, was in serious trouble.
