An opponent, who is going to fight against World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight champion Lerato ‘Lights Out’ Dlamini has finally been secured.
Tanzanian boxer Iddi Kayumba whose birth name is Iddi Mustafa Ally Said from Dar-Es-Salaam faces Dlamini in a 10 rounds bout at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqeberha on Saturday, 24 April.
The initial plan was for Dlamini to fight against Toto Helebe from Cape Town. But Boxing South Africa (BSA) rejected the fight on the grounds that Helebe hadn’t renewed his licence.
And it then became a mission to get an opponent for Dlamini until the Tanzanian agreed to come to South Africa.
Dlamini’s fight against the Tanzanian is on the undercard of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout between Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta from the Philippines. This tournament is going to be promoted by Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP).
Dlamini’s trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan is unavailable for this fight and Bernie Pailman is going to be in the boxer’s corner. Nathan is going to be away in the United Kingdom with IBF flyweight champion Moruti ‘Babyface’ Mthalane, who is set to make his fourth defence of his belt against Sunny Edwards from the UK on Friday, 30 April.
This is Dlamini’s first fight since he stopped Zimbabwean boxer Jeremiah Mhere in East London in March 2020 while his opponent last fought in February this year when he won against Ramadhan Sunya.
